Whoa! The name of the place sounds so ‘summit’. I mean, it sounds high and hard. But it’s not – not really. It’s the first walking trail I visited since day one I arrived in Melbourne. If you follow my blog, you must notice that I’ve ever said that Melbourne is boring. One of the reasons is that there aren’t a lot of choices when it comes to hiking, walking trail, and sort of. Even the city attractions are not appealing. The public transport is confusing as well. I understood the flow after more than 2 months staying here. I don’t know if it’s just me who’s that stupid at reading directions or there are people who feel the same.
So, after doing some search on Google, I found this place called Hanging Rock Summit Walk. It’s about 70 km from my place. I went there by car and arrived within an hour. I thought it’d be quiet but it was so crowded instead. I was also quite surprised to find that the parking lot was wide like a soccer field. Oh, I think it’s twice or three times wider.
The parking is not for free. Visitors have to pay. I don’t know if we can do it firsthand, but I paid when I was about to leave. There are 2 machines and we can use cards to pay. There are picnic tables all over the place. I think it’s a good place for a family. There is a cafe as well. The toilet is clean and located at the other side of the parking lot.
The walking trail is easy to find. The path is paved which ascends gradually. About 50 meters walking, there’s an intersection. I thought the 2 sections led to different paths but they’re the same. I suggest you to take right. It’ll lead you to a stair. After climbing the stairs, you’ll see an open space with a good view.
But that’s not where it ends. You can still go up to the summit. From there, the incline gets a bit harder. After the steep incline, you’ll find a spot where some rocks stand together forming a path or a room. I like this one.
From there, there’s a way up again that leads to the summit. Well, the summit wasn’t something that I expected. I thought it’d be an open space with just a few trees. But it turned out to be something like this.
I don’t know how to explain it. Overall, I like this place. Beautiful with a little bit of walking effort. Pictures probably can’t show as good as videos, so if you want to know more, you can always check on my YouTube channel.
From the summit, you can take the other way. Instead of taking the stairs, you can descend through the paved path. It’ll lead you to the first intersection I mentioned before.
